I know that next to no one reads this blog (no offense to anyone reading it now...). But I'm just having a moment and I thought I'd take a few minutes to spill my thoughts. For most of you who don't know of my erratic sleeping habits--I seem to suffer from a mild case of narcolepsy. It's never been clinically proven, but those near and dear to me will attest to it! But, such is the rare case tonight that I am feeling somewhat like an insomniac. In my stalling before bedtime, I have just spent a good portion of the last hour looking at blogs of various friends from high school. Several of them I haven't seen in years. But as I have been reading through some of their "mommy memos," I'm impressed with what they have done with themselves. They all have darling families with little ones driving them crazy. Several of them have written about the challenges and mundneness of motherhood. Unfortunately, I have not had the priviledge of joining their ranks yet. So I cannot empathize or even commiserate with them. Perhaps someday--hopefully much sooner than later. But, I just want to pay tribute to them and to all of my friends like them, most of whom will most likely never read this post.
Former First Lady Barbara Bush once said to a group of college graduates, "Whatever the era, whatever the times, one thing will never change...our success as a society, depends not on what happens in the White House but on what happens inside your house." I'd like to thank my friends for doing that which matters most and for impacting society for generations to come. Unbeknownst to virtually all of them, their efforts have not only impacted their respective families and society, but they have inspired me to be a little better this evening, to hope and prepare a little more for such opportunities in my own life. Again to them I say, thanks.
(P.S. Lest any of you think from this pictures that I skipped some important steps in life, this is me holding my surrogate niece, Addi...! She was born in April. If you think she was cute then, you should see her now!)
