A New Year

In ancient Mayan tradition, there was a widely held superstition that the events of the first day of the year were an omen for the rest of that year.

If that superstition were to hold true for me, I'm in for one the most non-productive, relatively uneventful, but completely relaxing years of my life.

The day went like this:

12:00 am - Aaron yelled "Happy New Year!" in a crowd of hundreds of Africans as we were trying to get onto the beach near a local hotel.

12:10 am - Decided it was futile and turned around and went home.

12:15 am - Stopped to admire the fireworks (at least what we could see of them anyway) that were going off on the beach.  Would have been awesome to be there.

12:30 am - Got home.  Decided that maybe we could go to another beach to enjoy the festivities.  Laid down for a second to rest.  Fell asleep.

10:00 am - Woke up.

12:00 pm - Had breakfast.

1:00 pm - Decided to watch a movie on my laptop.

4:00 pm - Wasted inordinate amounts of time on Facebook and catching up on people's blogs.

7:30 pm - Finally left the house.

8:00 pm - Went to dinner.

10:00 pm - Went home.

10:30 pm - Were going to watch another movie.  Laid down for a second to rest.  Fell asleep.

The End.

Let's hope that the Mayans were just superstitious...and not prophetic.

I hope that you all had a great New Year's.  Here's to 2010!
