I have a simple request for all you who have recently borne a child...or have at least thought about it once in your life (I don't want to be exclusive).
I'm looking for a decent (i.e., non-commercialized) list of what to buy, what not to buy, how much to buy and essential things to do (i.e., task-oriented, fun-oriented, self-indugling-oriented) before the blessed day when life changes forever.
I'm the novice.
You're the expert.
So, I implore you, impart to me some of your welling wisdom!
I know this may be considered a little premature.
But, with my track record of procrastination, and since I'm already physically pooped, I figure the eventual third-trimester fatigue will grind my slow-motion movements to a full-out halt.
So why not get a head start?
I may, for once in my life, actually be prepared to cross the finish line.
Or is it the starting line??

#1 - Be spontaneous. If you feel like going to a movie, then do it! After the baby going anywhere requires lots of time, planning, and stuff.
#2 - Get a maternity massage. Wait til you are sore and tired but not completely awkward.
#3 - Don't say "no" to having many baby showers. They will help you complete your "to buy" list. Register too, but not for clothes. People will buy clothes that they like. If you see something you can't live without, then buy it. When buying clothes now buy 9 or 12 month that is season appropriate. You'll get lots of little clothes and then around 9 months your child will have less and less to wear.
As far as essentials to buy, that might be better in an email. There is a list for you, and for baby. You will most likely be responsible for buying all the big stuff. i.e. crib, dresser, carseat, pack n' play, stroller, etc. Expensive but really one time purchases.
I recommend reading right now. I love the book Healthy sleep habits, happy baby. I've used it with every baby and it makes sense to me.
Really let me know if you want more specific stuff. I'm excited for you guys.
I will be sending you an email soon... I have quite the lists...
I will be sending you and email soon...I have quite the lists!
you will need diapers, lots of diapers..... lots and lots and lots of diapers. i have been buying diapers for 4 years now and let me tell you... you will need lots of diapers....if ye have diapers, ye shal not fear. buy diapers, lots and lots and lots of diapers!
I would buy a changing table (I know some people do with out them but I think that it is a must have), an infant tub (another item that some people do without but I always feel safer when I use it), a Baby Bjorn (or some kind of infant carrier), car seat cover (easy to make yourself), a hooter hider (if you are going to breast feed), a bottle warmer (if you are going to pump and bottle feed), and the obvious big ones. Those are just a few of the ones I am glad that I have right now! Good luck...it is so much fun...and it is definitely the starting line!
